A storied Beverly Hills villa originally built for Hollywood legend James Cagney has hit the market with an asking price of $38.5 million, reports The Wall Street Journal. Constructed around 1939, the stone estate was commissioned by Cagney at the height of his fame, when he was best known for iconic gangster roles in films like Angels with Dirty Faces. According to property records, Cagney owned the home until his death in 1986, making it a rare example of a Golden Age Hollywood residence tied so closely to its original star.

The property changed hands in 1987, when Cagney’s widow sold it to Steven Dunn, founder of Munchkin. Dunn later expanded the holding into a roughly five-acre compound by acquiring a neighboring parcel, transforming the historic villa into a sprawling private estate in Beverly Hills. Now coming to market decades later, the listing blends Hollywood history with modern scale, appealing to buyers seeking both pedigree and privacy in one of Los Angeles’ most exclusive enclaves.
